  • FlouriMax Fluoride Varnish Application

A better varnish all around, but different in every way.

FluoriMax varnish is unique in many ways.  It is an easier fluoride varnish to apply, but uses a different method than the sticky viscous varnishes.  The video below describes the technique and shows how fast the “spread” is across wet teeth, and why it is not necessary to “spackle” a thick paste to place as you need to with most other colophony based products.

We provide two delivery options, unit-dose, and bottle system.  Unit-dose features a unique flow-through applicator, while our bottle system is an option that drives down application cost and reduces waste when you only need a drop or two for very young children.  Cost are as low as 20 cents per application, and includes the brush and dappen dish needed.

When you apply FluoriMax with the single swipe technique described below and keep the cheek retracted a couple of seconds to set on moist tooth surfaces it sets to a very thin and tenacious bond that is much more comfortable for the patient.

Finally our varnish uses 1/2 the concentration of Fluoride at 2.5%.  Studies in the 1980’s demonstrated that a varnish in the old tacky resin base were as effective at 2.5% compared to the marketed 5% product.  The FDA has set a standard for fluoride varnish performance via the Fluoride uptake test into bovine enamel.  As we developed the shellac base for our varnish (no allergens, thin, non-tacky, durable) we tested various levels of NaF and found the Fluoride uptake was optimized at 2.5% NaF.  Our uptake out performed 5% products that were tested.  Additionally, the University of Colorado presented a paper at the 2013 AADR that showed hydroxyapatite disks reached a Fluoride saturation point from varnishes at about 2.5% NaF.  Our decision was made.  2.5% was the answer, simply good pharmacokinetics, the smallest effective dose.
